BALÁZS BODÓ
architect & preservation architect
Growing up in the Balaton Uplands, during my university years I started to get interested and involved in heritage protection and monument protection, initially through folk architectural monuments. In addition, already in my youth I had the good fortune to travel within Europe, to get acquainted with the - historical - architecture of other major European cities.
In the second half of my university years, I took part in more and more architectural mensurations (such as the interior of the sanctuary of Gyulafehérvár Cathedral, smaller churches in Baranya County, church buildings in the Transylvanian Plain and in Sibiu) as surveyor, and later as organizer. After graduation, I worked mainly on the restoration of monumental buildings (first on the presentation of the ruined Kaposszentjakab monastery, then on the construction of a modern crypt with liturgical purposes under the Budapest downtown parish church). Later in addition to planning the restorations I also took part in the planning support work of several major project, concerning heritage protection.
In my work in heritage and monument protection, I consider it important to have an approach that fits modern requirements, ensures sustainable operation, but also to ensure the preservation, survival or even restoration of the attributes that contain the essence of and provide value to the building. In my profession and in my free time I enjoy digital graphics and publishing, I am interested in photography and video art, in which I also am active at an amateur level.
